What is Eczema? Its Causes, Symptoms and Some Home Remedies

Eczema is a skin disease in which the patient suffers from skin rashes. These are accompanied by itchiness, flaking, swelling, dryness and redness. The patients suffer from constant itching and burning sensation in the skin.

Causes

Like other diseases, eczema is also caused due to various factors or causes. These include excessive intake of tea, coffee, alcohol, and aerated drinks. Some foods that are cold, dry, sour, spicy, salty or sour in nature also lead to eczema. Dried and fermented foods are also responsible for eczema.

Some digestive problems such as constipation, flatulence, acidity and indigestion are also responsible for occurrence of eczema. Some activities such as physical, mental or sexual when over-performed also lead to eczema. Sometimes late night dinners and late night work schedules are also causative factors for eczema.

Symptoms of Eczema

Eczema is known as Vicharchika in ayurveda. The main reason behind occurrence of eczema is improper diet and lifestyle which makes immune system of a person weak. The Pitta dosha which is symbolic of fire is also responsible for skin problems such as eczema. Due to digestive problems and inability of immune system to perform their functions properly, toxins accumulate in the body and manifest in the form of skin blisters.

Diet & Lifestyle Advice for eczema

To prevent or treat eczema, you need to avoid some foods such as spicy and oily foods plus tea, coffee, canned and preserved foods. Have a balanced and nutritious diet as well as eatables which can be easily digested by the body.

Synthetic clothes must be avoided. Instead wear cotton clothes. Similarly, smooth towel must be used after showers. Soap must be avoided for bathing purpose. Rather a mild shampoo or liquid may be used for deep cleansing of the skin. Practice some yoga poses including deep breathing exercises.

Few Home Remedies for Eczema

To get relief from itchiness and burning sensation in the skin due to blisters, apply a paste of licorice root powder and sesame oil by warming the same, on the affected parts of the body. Wash your skin with water in which neem leaves have been boiled. Use a hot compress prepared by boiling barks of gum tree and mango tree in equal proportions. Apply this compress on affected skin area followed by cleaning with dry cloth. Butter may be applied after it to lubricate the skin.
