Asthma is a disorder of the respiratory tract due to which the patient suffers from the problems relevant to breathing. The tract of the respiratory system becomes narrow due to accumulation of mucus. As a result, the flow of oxygen to the lungs and different body parts become restricted. Inflammation also occurs in airways. Asthma is mostly accompanied by dry mucus production and there is no phlegm in this condition.
Asthma is caused due to some genetic as well as environmental factors. Genetic factors include family history of the disease. The environmental factors may include exposure to cold air, emotional stress, allergens or excessive exercises. Allergy to certain foods or beverages may also result in asthmatic attacks. The condition is worsened upon intake of cold foods or beverages.
Asthma is mostly indicated by tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, and occasional periods of breathl.. essness, wheezing, and difficulty in breathing. As per ayurvedic viewpoint and swami ramdev, the enhanced kapha or water in the body start accumulating in the airways of the lungs. As a result, the airways become narrow and hence suffer from blockage. This in turn leads to obstruction in the flow of air in the lungs due to which the patient suffers from difficulty in breathing. According to ayurveda, when intake of vata i.e. air is increased in the body plus foods which intensify kapha, the lungs suffer from the problem of internal weakness. It automatically results in breathing-related problems.

To get rid of asthma attacks and also the symptoms of asthma, you must consume honey, spice teas, herbal teas etc. These are warm in nature and hence provide relief from asthmatic attacks. Consume pulses such as mung beans, old rice which has been stored for at least one year, wheat, kulattha, beans, arhar, barley etc. All these help in fighting against the allergens and relevant reactions. Seeds, sprouts and nuts prove to be equally beneficial for asthma patients.
Some foods need to be avoided altogether to prevent asthma attacks. These include milk products such as milk creams, cheese, butter and curd. In addition to this, banana, white flour and white sugar products. Cold drinks, refrigerated foods and beverages, oily, fried and greasy foods must also be excluded from your meals. Strenuous physical activity must also be avoided. Instead yoga and pranayama must be given preference.
