Acne / Skin Problems
Acne is the inflammatory disease of the sebaceous glands and the hair follicles of the skin. It is characterised by the outbreak of pimples or spots. Acne is mostly found on the face and neck region. But it can even appear on other body parts such as back, chest, groin and shoulders. It is found in both sexes- male and female.
The chief reason behind appearance of acne is the stress and hormonal imbalance. Apart from this, blockage of hair follicles present on the skin is another major cause behind occurrence of acne. Acne is formed due to over-production of sebum by the sebaceous glands along with testosterone hormone.
Girls also face the problem of appearance of acne on their face before start of menstruation cycles. It may even occur during pregnancy. Use of some medicines and cosmetics also lead to formation of acne.
Symptoms of Acne
The main symptom of acne is the appearance of .. blackheads due to pigmentation of the skin. In addition to this, whitehead is also a key characteristic of acne. Due to accumulation of bacteria and oil on the skin, the whiteheads get inflamed. Breaking of hair follicles leads to appearance of more whiteheads.
Ayurveda and Acne
Acne is known as ‘Yauvan Pidhika’ in ayurveda. As per ayurvedic concept, the chief reason behind occurrence of acne is the imbalance of the vata, pitta and kapha doshas in human body. It is due to imbalance amid heat, water and earth elements which leads to redness of the skin. Blood is another factor which leads to formation of acne due to its contamination with harmful substances.
Diet and Lifestyle changes
Acne can be controlled and prevented by making some changes in the diet as well as lifestyle of a person. These include eating warm food and eating fresh and healthy foods only. Eating at proper intervals of time also plays an important role in prevention of acne. Oily, spicy and sugary foods must be avoided altogether.
Including sufficient quantity of green leafy vegetables in the meals is equally beneficial in the treatment of acne. Fresh foods must also be given an apt place in the balanced diet plan to keep your skin free from acne. Have proper sleep and keep stress away from your mind and body to get rid of acne. Drink lots of water to keep your skin free from harmful substances and acne.
To keep your skin free from acne, wash your face with lukewarm water and soap two times a day. Apply a paste of neem leaves and turmeric powder on the affected area of skin followed by proper washing. Always remove make up and cleanse your face with an herbal cleanser before sleeping to prevent appearance of acne. You can also apply a paste of fresh fenugreek leaves on your face for 10 minutes. Wash it with lukewarm water. Gram flour mixed with rose water is also a wonderful face pack for treatment of acne.
